Farmer Brown

has a problem.

His cows like to type.

All day long he hears

Click, clack, MOO.

Click, clack, MOO.

Clickety, clack, MOO.

But Farmer Brown's problems REALLY begin when his cows start leaving him notes....

Doreen Cronin's understated text and Betsy Lewin's expressive illustrations make the most of this hilarious situation. Come join the fun as a bunch of literate cows turn Farmer Brown's farm upside down.Click, Clack, Moo is, of course, the sound of a typing cow. When Farmer Brown's cows start leaving him typed notes and demanding better conditions, a stand-off is inevitable--until neutral Duck steps in to mediate. Doreen Cronin's original storyline is perfectly complemented by the bold illustrative style of Betsy Lewin in this refreshingly unsentimental picture book. With its quirky humour and sophisticated vocabulary Click, Clack, Moo cleverly ensures that adults will enjoy reading the story aloud as often as young listeners will want to hear it. --Helen BakerThe literacy rate in Farmer Brown's barn goes up considerably once his cows find an old typewriter and begin typing. To the harassed farmer's dismay, his communicative cows quickly become contentious:

Dear Farmer Brown,
The barn is very cold at night. We'd like some electric blankets.
Sincerely,
The Cows

When he refuses to comply with their demands, the cows take action. Farmer Brown finds another note on the barn door: "Sorry. We're closed. No milk today." Soon the striking cows and Farmer Brown are forced to reach a mutually agreeable compromise, with the help of an impartial party--the duck. But this poor, beleaguered farmer's "atypical" troubles are not over yet!

This hilarious tale will give young rebels-in-the-making a taste of the power of peaceful protest and the satisfaction of cooperative give and take. Witty watercolors by award-winning illustrator Betsy Lewin (Snake Alley Band, Araminta's Paint Box) will make this a favorite for one and all, even if words such as "ultimatum" and "neutral" throw the younger set. Hello again. Here is the upgraded version (I hope) of "Racoon's Yawn."
When I first published it, the time was before the advent of Kindle 3 and I could do it as an experiment.
This time I re-sized photos into 600*800 pixels, and tried to correct some small errors.
Please enjoy and pet the cutie in your Kindle3!

(Book Detail for the original version)

I understand "T" in the Amazon DTP means "text."
But don't you think it nicer, if we can also publish photobooks for the DTP system and coming Kindle3?
Here is my experimental photobook using 10 B/W photos I took in Vancouver in 2006...of a cute racoon... It yawned!!

***
Some useful (I hope) info about how I made this photobook:
*NOTE: The below is what I tried this time with my PC settings. The DTP system itself as well as its requirement(s) can be changed in the future.

1. Resize your photos into 600*733 pixels (aspect ratio=9:11). This time I saved them in JPEG format (Quality: 60/100), using Adobe Photoshop Elements.
2. Simply arrange them on a Word file. (*Mine is Word 2003 of Japanese).
3. Upload the Word file onto the DTP system (your file will be converted to DTP format). Then push "Preview Book" and download zipped HTML data.
4. Unzip the folder.
5. Open its html source with Notepad or other text editor. Then, change all "page-break-before: always" into "page-break-before: avoid."
6. Zip again the folder and upload it as another content (at this stage, you have to do so... inconvenient, though).

Enjoy my "Mr. Racoon" and making your own photobook!

*ADDITIONAL NOTE in Dec 2010
1. 600*733 pixels (aspect ratio=9:11) >> Now I know we don't need to stick to this "aspect ratio=9:11." This size makes some margin under photos when in Kindle 3.
600*800 pixels or so might be better. Pls try.
6. You can upload the zip file again as the same content. Sorry!

Interesting Kindle Photobook,

By D.F.E. "D. F. Escalon" (San Pedro, CA, US)

More interesting from a technical standpoint than from an artistic one (the pictures are cute, however), but this
photo book is an interesting experiment. The photos are well done and the quality is quite good. This book will
serve as a good starting point for thinking about alternative uses for the Kindle and other eBoooks.
